Autumn in New York is a most beautiful time of year in one of the world’s most exciting and energized cities, offering up gorgeous scenery and an electricity in the air that is hard to describe, and even harder to find elsewhere. To get the most out of this great city at such a time of year, you need to know exactly where to stay ahead of time.
I visited the Big Apple last fall to mix a bit of business and pleasure, and found myself in the heart of midtown, nearby Central Park, and at one of the most glamorous hotels in Manhattan and the entire country.
The W Hotel offers an ideal location in the city if you’re looking to go out and explore the area all day long, and offers many luxurious rooms to return to when you’re ready to retire for the night. It is truly as showcased: an oasis in the sky. In the center of the city that is the center of the universe, W New York is close to Grand Central Terminal, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, the Theater District and world-class shopping.
A variety of rooms offer the perfect getaway at the end of the day, for fun or work. I opt for the Spectacular Suite (all of their rooms have such lofty names), a secluded sanctuary inspired by nature’s soothing colors and textures. Silky 350-thread-count linens and a goose-down comforter on the pillow-top mattress is fit for a perfect night’s sleep, and when there’s work to be done, the chic and functional multi-level desk area is perfect for multi-tasking, powered by High Speed Internet Access and aided by a cordless phone with voicemail capabilities and a speakerphone to keep me connected to the world from anywhere in the room.
Of course, for pleasure, a state-of-the-art entertainment system featuring a 37″ flat screen TV is very enjoying, but I always also try and make time to take in a gorgeous cityscape and sunset from the balcony. For extended business trips the hotel is especially conducive to making my stay as comfortable and productive as possible, with a massive spa that definitely feels like a complete escape, as well as a gym, which is perfect for the mornings I want to jump on the elliptical for 45 minutes and catch up on news of the day.
If you’re going to take in all that the world’s most exciting city has to offer, then you might as well indulge and make your home-base the W, one of the most comforting and beautiful hotels in New York.
